Visual Memory: Photographer Valery Faminsky

In this exhibition, visitors experience spring in Germany during the long-awaited year of 1945, as well as Berlin after street battles. They also see Soviet soldiers and officers, everyday life during the war, the wounded, and members of the medical battalion. Additionally, they see the many hours of work by military medics between April 22 and May 24, as well as excerpts from the diary of photojournalist Valery Faminsky. The text reveals Faminsky as a humanist and a man who took his calling seriously. While carrying out his assignment, Faminsky captures the routine of military life, compassion, and the contrast between different ways of life. He photographs all the people of the war, without exception, and captures moments at the end of a catastrophe drawing to a close.
