Faminsky 1945 – Lost Photographs
Faminsky 1945 – Lost Photographs
Valery Faminsky (1914–1993) served as a war photographer in the Red Army from 1943 to 1945. His main task was to photograph the provision of medical care and the evacuation of wounded soldiers. Traveling through Lower Silesia, Oderbuch, and the Seelow Heights, he made his way to Berlin, always remaining in close proximity to the front lines. He focuses on the individual fates of people on both the winning and losing sides, clearly showing that they were all victims of the war. On May 22, 1945, Faminsky returned to Moscow with his exposed film rolls, where the photographs, having gone unnoticed, awaited discovery. Photojournalist Artur Bondar acquired this archive in 2016 and made it accessible to the general public.
